I am Jiya, a junior in high school. We want to spread awareness about the impact of sustainable clothing on the environment. Fast fashion creates so much waste, and most people don't realize how their clothing choices affect the planet.
Our goal is to help change that by educating students on simple ways to make their wardrobes more sustainable whether it is through reusing, upcycling, thrifting, or just being more mindful about what we buy. Through school talks, clothing drives, and hands-on workshops, I want to make sustainability an easy and practical choice for everyone. It is not just about fashion it is about making a real difference.
Upcycle & Personalize -Turn old t-shirts into tote bags, crop tops, or even pillowcases. Add patches, embroidery, or fabric paint to give your clothes a fresh new look.
Clothing Swaps -Organize a swap event at school where everyone can trade clothes instead of buying new ones. It's free and way better for the planet.
Thrift & Secondhand -Challenge yourself to build outfits from thrift stores instead of fast fashion. You will find unique pieces and save money.
Fix & Care: Learn simple sewing skills to fix small rips and missing buttons. Wash your clothes in cold water and air dry to make them last longer.
Repurpose Old Clothes - Use fabric scraps for DIY projects, turn worn-out clothes into cleaning rags, or donate what you donate wear anymore to shelters.
Spread Awareness First - Before the drive, educate students on why clothing waste is a problem. Give talks, run workshops, and share facts on posters or social media.
Make It Easy to Donate- Set up collection bins in busy areas like the school lobby or cafeteria. Make the donation process simple and clear.
Give It a Purpose - Partner with local shelters, thrift stores, or textile recycling programs so people know where their clothes are going.
Sort & Repurpose - Separate donations into wearable, repairable, and recyclable piles. Host a free clothing market at school or donate directly.
Make It Fun -Turn it into a challenge between classes or offer small incentives to encourage participation.
A clothing drive isn't just about donating it is about changing how we think about the clothes we own.
