Using Old Clothes for Upholstery Cleaning at Our Car Wash

At our car wash, we’re always looking for ways to be more eco-friendly and budget-smart — and one great solution is reusing old clothes for cleaning car interiors.

Instead of tossing out worn-out T-shirts, towels, or bedsheets, we give them a second life as cleaning rags. They’re super absorbent, soft on upholstery, and perfect for wiping down leather, dashboards, and fabric seats.

Here’s why we love using used clothes:

  •  It’s sustainable – we’re keeping fabric waste out of landfills.
  • It saves money – no need to constantly buy new microfiber cloths.
  • They actually work better – soft, broken-in cotton is great for detailed cleaning.

What kinds of clothes do we use?

  •  Old cotton T-shirts (great for wiping interiors)
  • Towels and washcloths (perfect for shampooing seats and carpets)
  • Lightweight bedsheets (ideal for drying and large surface cleaning)
  • Flannel or fleece (gentle buffing)

We avoid anything with zippers or buttons (they can scratch), and we make sure all clothes are pre-washed and cut into manageable pieces.

If you’re clearing out your closet and have clothes that are too worn to donate — we’d love to take them off your hands!
